The Captain's Bridge

How automating the Order Pending Release returned one hour of weekly leadership capacity, and shifted managers from compiling data to acting on it.

Case study illustration: The Captain's Bridge

THE SITUATION

Every manager spent approximately one hour each week manually pulling files from multiple systems, consolidating them into spreadsheets, and formatting reports, before any analysis of the Order Pending Release Review could begin.

The preparation was the work. By the time it was done, the window for strategic thinking had closed. And because the data came from manual consolidation across disparate sources, its reliability was never guaranteed.

WHAT CHANGED

A Power BI dashboard was built to automate the entire OPR data pipeline, scheduled refreshes, centralised reporting, direct access to current and historical performance data, eliminating manual file handling at every step.

The design principle: reporting should not be an administrative burden. It should be a tool for leadership. The system was built to deliver insight at the start of a session, not at the end of a preparation cycle.

THE DELTA

1 hr/week

per manager — reclaimed

Zero

manual prep required

One source

of truth — always current

Manual data gathering eliminated. Error exposure removed. A single authoritative dashboard replaced the spreadsheet patchwork. Managers arrived at the OPR ready to lead, not still compiling.

THE TAKEAWAY

"Reporting should not be an administrative burden. It should be a tool for leadership. Build the navigation suite, and return the captain to the bridge."

The hour of preparation time is the visible cost. The invisible cost is the quality of leadership decisions made by people who spent the preceding hour on data assembly. Eliminate the assembly. Return the attention.
